Bonaire is a Dutch island in the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. The islands of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba are collectively called The Caribbean Netherlands and belong to the Netherlands as 'special municipalities'. The six islands of Aruba, Curaçao, St Maarten, Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba, are also referred to as the Dutch Caribbean.
The flag of Bonaire has a large blue triangle in the lower right and a smaller yellow triangle in the upper left. The triangles are separated by a white stripe, in which there is a black compass and a six pointed red star. The blue and yellow triangles represent the sea and sun, respectively, while the white strip of land is the sky. The colors red, white and blue show an allegiance to the Kingdom of Bonaire in the Netherlands. The compass represents the black population of Bonaire that comes from the four corners of the world. The six pointed red star represents the six villages of Bonaire - Antriol, Nikiboko, Nort Salina, Playa Rincon and Tera Kora. The day of the flag of Bonaire is September the 6th.

Insider Tips
Rincon: If you're seeking cultural experiences, plan your visit in April and be in Rincon on April 30th for their annual cultural event called "Dia di Rincon" (Rincon Day). Rincon is the oldest village in Bonaire and offers a unique glimpse into the island's rich history and traditions.
Rincon, located in the hills of Bonaire, offers stunning panoramic views of both the eastern and western shores of the Caribbean Sea. What sets Rincon apart from other early Caribbean settlements is its distinct center, making it the vibrant cultural hub of the island. Bonaire itself has only two residential areas: Kralendijk with its suburbs and Rincon. With its rich history, traditions, festivities, and customs, Rincon proudly holds the title of Bonaire's cultural center.
During Rincon Day, the village comes alive with vibrant celebrations. Musicians in colorful costumes fill the streets, playing traditional and modern music, while dancers showcase their skills. You'll find numerous food stalls offering delicious local snacks, providing a taste of the authentic kunuku (country) lifestyle of Rincon.
Drink Cocktails made of Cactus: Indulge in a unique and refreshing experience by trying cocktails made from cactus-based ingredients. Bonaire offers a variety of creative and delicious cactus cocktails that perfectly complement the island vibes.
Visit Klein Bonaire: Take a trip to Klein Bonaire, a small uninhabited island located just off the coast of Bonaire. It's accessible by water taxi or boat tours and is known for its pristine beaches and excellent snorkeling and diving spots. Spend a day exploring the island's untouched beauty and enjoying the tranquility.
Horseback Riding: Embark on a horseback riding excursion in Bonaire for a unique and thrilling adventure. Ride through dirt roads and lush forests, immersing yourself in the island's natural beauty. Reach a stunning beach where you can take a refreshing swim with your horse in the crystal-clear waters. Afterward, feel the exhilaration as you gallop back to the ranch, creating a truly unforgettable memory.
Power plugs: the same as those used in USA. They typically have two flat pins (Type A) or two flat pins with a grounding pin (Type B), similar to the plugs used in North America. However, it is recommended to bring a universal adapter that can accommodate different plug types to ensure you can use your electronic devices without any issues.
Bon Tuk: Discover Bonaire in a unique and fun way by hopping on a Bon Tuk, a tuktuk style vehicle that offers an enjoyable mode of transportation around the island.
Public Transportation: Please note that public transport in Bonaire is limited to buses, but schedules may not be readily available. To catch a bus, it's necessary to call for one in advance.
Gas Stations: When it comes to refueling, Kralendijk boasts three gas stations, while Rincon has one. Remember to prepay before refueling, as the pump will automatically stop once the paid amount of fuel has been dispensed.
